Missing several teeth, or a whole arch, changes more than your smile. It makes some foods hard to enjoy, can affect your speech, and over time allows the facial muscles to lose support. Dentures are a time-tested, cost-effective way to restore all of that, and today’s versions look and feel far more natural than the dentures many people remember.

Types of Dentures
- Full (complete) dentures: replace an entire upper or lower set when no natural teeth remain in that arch.
- Partial dentures: fill one or more gaps by fitting between and resting against your remaining natural teeth.
- Temporary (immediate) dentures: worn while your gums heal after extractions.
- Fixed bridge-style replacements: a non-removable option in some cases.
- Flexible partials: a gum-coloured base with no visible metal clasps, in Valplast or Sunflex.
- Chrome partials: a thin cast metal frame, more rigid and thinner than an all-acrylic plate.
- Implant-retained dentures: a denture that clips onto implants instead of resting loose on the gum.

How Your Dentures Are Made
We start with a careful examination of your teeth and gums, taking radiographs if needed and carrying out any necessary extractions. Next we take bite impressions so your dentures can be custom-made to fit your mouth precisely. Once they’re ready, you return for fitting, and because a good fit takes a little settling in, we schedule follow-up visits to adjust and fine-tune comfort.
New dentures always take some getting used to as your cheeks, tongue and gums adapt. We’ll support you through that, and any eligible health-fund rebate is claimed on the spot through HICAPS, with payment plans available if you’d like to spread the cost.
Where You Can Have It Done
Dentures are made and fitted at all six clinics, not at one central site. That matters more for dentures than for most treatments, because a denture takes several visits and the review appointments are the ones people skip when they are a long drive away. Skipped reviews are the most common reason a denture ends up uncomfortable.

For patients coming in from out of town we group and lengthen appointments where the laboratory schedule allows. Skipping the review visits is the main reason dentures end up uncomfortable, so they are worth planning for.
Yes. Repairs, relines and adjustments are handled at all six clinics, and you do not need to have had the original dentures made with us. A denture that has become loose or is rubbing usually needs a reline rather than replacement, which is a far smaller job than most people expect.
