Fees & Payment
Dental Payment Plans & Health Funds
We keep dental care within reach across North Queensland: claim your health fund on the spot, bulk bill the CDBS for eligible kids, and spread the cost with interest-free plans.
Cost shouldn’t be the reason you put off dental care. At My Family Dental we offer flexible payment options through trusted finance partners, alongside health-fund cover and government schemes, so you can get the treatment you need when you need it, not months later.
Whether you’re a family in Townsville’s Bohle Plains and Kirwan, a cane farmer near Ingham, or a worker passing through Emerald, the same options are available at every one of our six North Queensland clinics.
Claim On the Spot
Health Funds & HICAPS
If you have private health extras cover, bring your fund card to your appointment. We process your claim instantly through HICAPS, so you only pay the gap on the day rather than paying in full and claiming back later.
Health funds we accept include
Cover varies between funds and policies: check your extras, and we’ll process any eligible rebate for you.
Kids: Bulk Billed Under the CDBS
Eligible children aged 0–17 can access up to $1,158 in dental benefits over two calendar years through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (the cap is indexed each January). We bulk bill it, so eligible check-ups, cleans, x-rays and fillings can be at no out-of-pocket cost within the cap. We’ll confirm eligibility at the front desk.

Interest-Free Payment Options
For treatments you’d rather pay off over time, we work with these finance partners. Approval is quick, and there’s no interest or fees provided you pay on time.
Afterpay
- 4 equal instalments, every 2 weeks
- No interest or fees if you pay on time
- Available up to $1,500
- Requires a valid debit or credit card
ZipPay
- Interest-free payments up to $1,000
- Starting at $10 a week
- No upfront payments
- Available between $250 and $1,000, for Australian residents over 18
humm
- Interest-free instalments
- Pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly
- Requires regular income and proof of identity
- Subject to credit assessment
Larger treatment plans, such as implants, All-on-4 or orthodontics, can exceed these limits. For those we work with The Health Fund, below.
Larger Treatment Plans
The Health Fund
Where treatment costs more than the interest-free limits above, we work with The Health Fund, who arrange payment plans for medical and dental treatment. Applications are assessed by them, not by us.
What they offer
- Payment plans from $5,000 to $100,000
- Terms of up to 7 years
- Fee of 10% of the amount borrowed, capped at $770, built into the loan rather than paid upfront
- Debt consolidation, so existing loans and credit card balances can be combined into a single repayment
- Assistance with compassionate release of superannuation, on its own or alongside a payment plan
What you’ll need
- Three months of bank statements
- One month of payslips, or benefit statements if you receive a pension or DVA payment
- Consent for a soft credit check, which does not affect your credit rating the way a formal application does
Brochures are available at reception, and the team can talk you through whether this is worth considering. Approval and terms are entirely a matter for The Health Fund.
A Last Resort
Using Super to Pay for Treatment
Patients sometimes ask whether they can draw on their superannuation to pay for dental work. Compassionate release of super is decided by the Australian Taxation Office, not by us, and it is only available in limited circumstances: where treatment is needed to treat a life-threatening illness or injury, to alleviate acute or chronic pain, or to alleviate an acute or chronic mental illness, and where that treatment is not readily available through the public health system. It is not available for purely cosmetic treatment.
Before it is even a question, check whether you are eligible for public dental care. If you hold a Health Care Card, Pension Concession Card or Queensland Seniors Card, you may be, and many Queensland Hospital and Health Services issue vouchers that let you be treated by a private dentist. We accept Queensland Health vouchers at Emerald, Bohle Plains, Ingham, Innisfail and Townsville. The ATO will not release super for treatment that is readily available through the public system, so this is the first thing to rule out.
Money released early has tax withheld from it, and it stops earning for your retirement. It can also affect Centrelink or child support payments. For that reason it should be treated as a last resort, after the health-fund, CDBS and payment-plan options above. We would encourage anyone considering it to seek independent financial advice first: a dentist is not licensed to give it.
Where a patient’s condition genuinely meets the ATO’s criteria we will complete an honest clinical report. We do not charge fees to prepare or submit an application, and we will never ask for your myGov login.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Afterpay and ZipPay are available for most treatments within their limits. Because those limits are relatively low, larger treatment plans (such as implants, All-on-4 or orthodontics) are handled with other flexible payment arrangements. Ask our team and we’ll walk you through the option that fits your treatment and budget.
With Afterpay and ZipPay there are no fees or interest as long as you pay on time; late fees may apply if a payment is missed. humm offers interest-free instalments subject to a credit assessment. We’ll always give you a clear, written quote first so you know the total before you choose how to pay.
If you have private health extras cover, bring your fund card to your appointment and we’ll process your claim on the spot through HICAPS. That means you only pay the gap on the day, rather than paying in full and claiming back later.
Sometimes, but the threshold is high and the decision is the ATO’s, not ours. Compassionate release of super is only available where treatment is needed to treat a life-threatening illness or injury, to alleviate acute or chronic pain, or to alleviate acute or chronic mental illness, and where the treatment is not readily available through the public health system. It is not available for purely cosmetic treatment. We do not charge fees to prepare an application and we will never ask for your myGov details.
Eligible children aged 0 to 17 can access the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (up to $1,158 over two calendar years, indexed each January). We bulk bill the CDBS, so eligible care can be at no out-of-pocket cost within the cap. We’ll confirm eligibility at the front desk.
Important: Payment plans are provided by third-party finance partners and are subject to their eligibility criteria, terms and approval: My Family Dental does not provide credit. Health-fund rebates depend on your policy. Always read the provider’s terms before entering an agreement.
