Flexible or Chrome

If you are missing some teeth rather than all of them, this is the real decision. A flexible partial has a gum-coloured base that gives slightly and holds on without visible clasps, which is why people who have disliked the look of a metal one often get on with it. A chrome partial has a cast frame, so it can be made thinner and it passes the force of your bite onto your own teeth instead of pressing it into the gum. That is easier on the gum over the long run, and it is the more comfortable option for some people and not for others.

We make both here. The honest answer is that it depends on which teeth are missing, how healthy the remaining ones are, and what you want it to look like when you smile, and none of that can be settled before we have looked.

Immediate Dentures: Not Going Without

If teeth need to come out, an immediate denture is made beforehand and fitted the same day, so you do not spend the healing period with gaps. The trade-off is that gums shrink as they heal, so an immediate denture needs relining once things have settled. That is expected rather than a fault, and we plan for it from the start instead of raising it later.

When a Lower Denture Will Not Stay Put

Lower dentures have less ridge to hold on to than upper ones, and for some people no amount of adjustment fixes that. Implants can. Two or more implants are placed in the jaw and the denture clips onto them, so it stays where you put it and you can bite into something without bracing it with your tongue.

Repairs and Relines

A denture that has cracked, lost a tooth or gone loose does not automatically need replacing. Bring it in and we will tell you which of those it is. Repairs and relines are done through our laboratory, and you do not need to have had the original made with us. A reline is a far smaller job than a new denture, and a loose denture left alone tends to rub, which is how sore spots start.

Getting It Done Without the Drive

A denture is built over several appointments, so where you have it made decides how much driving it involves. Doing it at Ingham means the impressions, the try-in, the fit and the review visits all happen in Ingham, instead of a long drive at every stage. Impressions here can be taken with a Medit i700 intra-oral scanner where the case suits it, which most people find easier than a tray of impression material.

The fee depends on whether the denture is full or partial, what it is made from, and whether extractions or implants are part of it. You get a written quote after the examination, so you have the figure before anything is booked. We claim health fund rebates through HICAPS at the desk, we see DVA card holders, and interest-free payment plans are available through Afterpay, Zip, humm and DentiCare.
