Children’s Dentistry — Care That Grows With Them
Gentle, friendly dental visits that help kids feel at ease — check-ups, cleans, x-rays and fillings, with CDBS bulk billing for eligible children at your local North Queensland clinic.
We recommend a child’s first dental visit by around 12 months of age, or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing. Our children’s services include check-ups, cleaning, x-rays, fillings and, when needed, root canals and extractions — all in a calm, stress-free setting. Eligible children aged 2–17 can access the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, which we bulk bill.

The habits and feelings children form about the dentist tend to stick for life. Start early and keep it positive, and going to the dentist becomes an ordinary, unremarkable part of growing up rather than something to dread. That’s the whole idea behind our children’s dentistry — healthy teeth and a child who’s comfortable in the chair.
With family-friendly clinics right across North Queensland — including the fast-growing Townsville family corridors of Bohle Plains and Kirwan — we make it easy to bring the whole family in close to home.
Start Early
We recommend a first visit by around 12 months of age, or within six months of the first tooth coming through. These early appointments are gentle and low-key: we check that teeth and the jaw are developing well, look for anything that needs watching, and — just as importantly — let your child get used to the sights, sounds and people of the clinic in a relaxed way.
It’s also a great chance for parents to ask questions about teething, thumb-sucking, dummies, fluoride and the best way to clean tiny teeth at home.
What We Do for Children
As your child grows, our care grows with them. Services include:
- Check-ups — monitoring growth, development and any early signs of decay.
- Cleaning — polishing teeth and removing plaque, tartar and staining.
- X-rays — where needed to see between teeth or check developing adult teeth.
- Fillings — treating cavities gently with tooth-coloured material.
- Root canals and extractions — when a baby or adult tooth needs more involved care.
For younger children especially, a lot of a visit is about building trust — showing them how to brush, letting them explore, and keeping things calm and friendly so they leave feeling proud rather than frightened.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)
The CDBS is a Medicare program that can make children’s dental care far more affordable. Children aged 2 to 17 are generally eligible if their family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A, and eligible children can access up to around $1,000 in benefits across two calendar years. It covers common services like check-ups, cleans, x-rays and fillings.
We bulk bill the CDBS, which means eligible care can be at no out-of-pocket cost to you within the cap. We’ll check your child’s eligibility at the front desk before their appointment, so you know exactly where you stand. If you have private health extras cover instead, we’ll claim any rebate on the spot through HICAPS.
Important: CDBS eligibility and benefit caps are set by Medicare and can change — we confirm your child’s eligibility at the time of visit. Any dental treatment carries risks and outcomes vary. Seek advice appropriate to your child’s circumstances from a qualified health practitioner.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend a first visit by around 12 months of age, or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing — whichever comes first. Early visits are more about getting your child comfortable and spotting anything that needs watching than doing treatment, and they help build a positive relationship with the dentist from the start.
For a toddler or preschooler, a visit usually involves gently polishing the teeth, removing any plaque or staining, checking that everything is developing normally, and showing you and your child how to clean at home — plus advice on fluoride and diet. X-rays aren’t often taken at this age since baby teeth are eventually replaced.
We provide general check-ups and cleaning, x-rays where needed, fillings, and when necessary root canals and extractions — all delivered in a calm, friendly way designed to help kids feel at ease. Our aim is to keep visits stress-free so your child grows up seeing the dentist as a normal, unremarkable part of life.

We bulk bill the CDBS, so eligible care can be at no out-of-pocket cost within the cap — we’ll check eligibility at the front desk.
