Emerald announces itself with a 25-metre easel holding a Van Gogh — the Big Easel, built in 1999 to celebrate the district’s sunflower crops. Behind the landmark is a working Central Highlands hub of nearly 15,000 people: Bowen Basin coal mines employ about one in six local workers, and the cattle, cotton, citrus and sunflower country around town fills in the rest. Our clinic at 3/89 Clermont Street is built around those working rhythms — 8am starts on weekdays and Saturday appointments by arrangement, because mining rosters and harvest weeks don’t bend to office hours.

It’s also one of Queensland’s younger towns: the median age is 32, a quarter of residents are under 15, and roughly two-thirds of families are raising children. That’s why children’s dentistry, first visits and school-term check-ups sit at the centre of what we do here — alongside fillings, crowns, whitening and implants for the grown-ups.
